Orlando – A Brief City Outline.Introduction: Orlando is the sixth largest city in Florida and its largest inland city. Kissimmee MSA is Florida’s third largest metropolitan area. The second largest university in Florida is the “University of Central Florida” in Orlando. Orlando is known for many tourist attractions. Some of which include: •Walt Disney world resort. •Sea world. •Universal Orlando resort. The estimated tourists are 52 million every year. It has 2 major health hospitals: •Florida hospital. •Orlando regional health care system. Florida hospital was recognized as one of the America’s top hospitals for 8 consecutive years. The city got a nice name “the city beautiful”. History: Orlando was named after a soldier Orlando reeves. He died in the area during the war against “Seminole” Indian tribe. They found his name carved in to a tree and assumed it was a marker for his grave. Then later they started calling the area as Orlando. It suffered greatly during the federal blockade, the population explosion brought by the reconstruction era. From 1975-1895 the era is remembered as the “gilded era”. Orlando international airport was built from a portion of the McCoy air force base. The tallest building in Orlando is 441 ft and is called the “sun trust” center. In 2004, hurricanes charley, Frances, and jeans battered the Orlando Sea, causing damage and flooding and impending tourism in the area. Climate: Orlando has a warm and humid climate. There are two main seasons each year. One is the rainy, lasting from April to October. The other is the cooler season. The climate is caused primarily by its low elevation and its position relatively close to the tropic of cancer. During the humid time the temperatures fall from 70 degree F heat. Although the city neve breaks a record temperature over 100 degreeF, extreme humidity often pushes the heat index to over 100 degreeF heats. The air masses from Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean colliding over central Florida causes storms. They also bring high wind, damaging hail, heavy rainfall and violent lightening. The central Africa is mostly prone to lightening. During the winter season, humidity is lower and temperatures are more moderate, and can fluctuate more readily. The winter is dry and most freezing temperatures occur after cold fonts have passed. Orlando neve had real snow falls.
