It’s been thirty years since George Lucas unleashed Star Wars on us. A whole generation later, the Star Wars name is still bringing in huge money for Lucas’ companies, partly due to the recent prequel triology, and partly due to the appeal of the original trilogy from the late 1970’s and early 1980’s. Star Wars toy figures were one of the “must have” toys for children in the 1980’s, and the success of the prequels means that these figures continue to be an extremely popular product with children today. But as popular as Star Wars has been over the years, the brand certainly does not have a monopoly on action figures toys, with figures and toys from cult classics and modern day movies and television shows filling the shelves in every toy store, online or otherwise. For every toy that has enjoyed a prolonged shelf life and level of success, there are countless products that disappear as quickly as they appear on the shelf. One example of that is the 1990’s fad that were beanbag and beanie babies toys. Although they may not be as popular and easy to purchase in some stores, they are something of a collector’s product today, and especially online continue to have a leveal of demand. But despite so many changes and fads over the years, classic traditional play toys have never shown any signs of disappearing from toy stores, and continue to be a hit with children from all over the world. From the classic dolls house, to a simple toy car, right through to building toys and lego toys, the classics are here to stay for a long, long time.
